ATHENS, Ga. – Starnet Commercial Flooring has announced the winners of the 20th Annual Starnet Design Awards, giving DCO Commercial Floors the Silver Award in the Multi-use Facility category.

Each year the awards celebrate the dynamic partnerships between Starnet Members, vendor partners and the A&D community in delivering amazing commercial flooring experiences.

Since 1998, the Starnet Design Awards have recognized dynamic relationships between Starnet Members and the A&D community by spotlighting the innovative use of flooring in commercial design. This year, we continue to celebrate the creativity and professionalism of the A&D community and our Members, as well as the quality and versatility of Starnet Preferred Vendor flooring products.

Sales Lead:  Luke Canup and Joe Pryor

Project Manager:  Erik Klaasen

Client:  Arbor Terrace Hamilton Mill

Materials used:  Masland carpet, Mapei setting materials & prep, Daltile tile, Armstrong SDT, Centiva LVT, Tarkett VCT, Flexco base, Johnsonite base, Roppe base, Mats Inc walkoff mat, Spraylock adhesive

Category for submission:  Multi-use facility (Senior Living Facility)

The second floor had thin 1” gypcrete floors but also had roll-in tile showers.  We had to slope the floor properly and use the correct products to gain enough fall for the water to go down the drain. The large number of different types of finishes was very difficult to keep track of on site.  We had a very limited time frame to install all of the resident unit flooring and tile.  The type and position of the drains posed quite a challenge to be able to drain properly and appear aesthetically pleasing.

Judging Panel

A panel of architects and designers lent their talent and expertise to this year’s panel: Charlotte Blue, Assoc. IIDA – Interior Designer/Studio Leader, LS3P; Paul Lewandowski, AIA, IIDA, LEED – Principal, Scott Simons Architects; and James O’Neill – Founding Principal, Inventure Design.

Honorary Judges for the Environmental Achievement and Unique Installation Challenge Awards were Robert Peoples, Ph.D., executive director of Carpet American Recovery Effort (CARE) and Robert Varden, vice president of Certified Flooring Installers, respectively.
