Blanton one of 10 recipients nationally recognized as a young leader in the flooring industry for 2018
Curtis Blanton, Vice President of DCO, Inc., is one of ten winners nationally for the 2018 Young Professional Award of Floor Focus magazine. The award honors professionals under the age of 40 who have proven themselves to be leaders within the flooring industry.
Floor Focus covers the residential and commercial flooring industries, offering an in-depth look at the latest trends and issues in the marketplace.
Judges for the 2018 competition were Ralph Boe, president of ArrowStar and past president of Beaulieu Group, and Paul Friederichsen, flooring industry marketing consultant, creative director and marketing strategist.
Blanton was called to the floor covering business when he worked full-time in operations at the Eatonton location of Dalton Carpet One, the company his father started almost 30 years previously.
Even with this full-time job, he graduated Cum Laude from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia in 2007.
Within a couple of months at the Eatonton location, Blanton was quickly promoted to the manager position. In 2012, he moved to Athens where he would run the commercial flooring division, DCO Commercial Floors (DCOCF).
While serving as General Manager for DCOCF from 2012-2017, he provided overall leadership for the division including sales, project management, and installation. Under his direction, the commercial division doubled in size from $20 million to more than $40 million.
With these accomplishments under his belt, Blanton was appointed Vice President of DCO, Inc., parent company to DCOCF, in 2017.
In this role, Blanton has accomplished much progress. He oversees all commercial business, responsible for leadership and oversight of all commercial flooring and window treatments. He geographically expanded the business by opening a branch in Austin, Texas, in May 2017. He currently supervises both the Austin and Atlanta markets, as well as national work.
In 2014, Curtis became an active member of the Flooring Contractors Association (FCICA). Since July 2017, he has served on the Board of Directors. He is also the Chairman of the Successors Task Force and is on the Membership Committee.
DCO Commercial Floors became a member of Starnet in early 2017, the world’s largest network of full-service independent flooring contractors. His involvement with the network includes serving on the Technology Committee.
Curtis is a huge supporter of Building for America’s Bravest and the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. When Curtis isn’t working, he likes to play golf, run, and root on his UGA Bulldogs in football and the Atlanta Braves.
